Human Resources

Definition:

The department (perhaps just a single person) in a company that is in charge of personnel. The responsibilities of the HR department usually include hiring, discipline, training, termination, and employee benefits.

Examples:

The advert in the newspaper requests that all candidates submit their resumes to the Human Resources department for evaluation.

When a supervisor sees a need for new position in their department, they often first need to discuss it with Human Resources to make sure the department budget and physical resources are available before anyone is hired.
