Certificate of Title

Definition:

A document issued by a title company, registrar, or attorney stating that the ownership of a piece of property is vested as stated on the document.

Examples:

After purchasing the house, Jane walked over to the county registrar’s office to file the certificate of title.

He was able to roll all of the closing costs into the mortgage, with the exception of the fee charged by the attorney to draw up the certificate of title.
